There are several places where you can get silver earrings and you should not have too much trouble finding exactly what you are looking for – or coming across something you absolutely love if you are just browsing. Jewelry designers have become more and more adventurous in recent years and there are some beautiful designs waiting to be discovered.

1. Jewelry Store Chains

There are tons of jewelry shops selling earrings but strangely I have found the least amount of choice in these stores. If you are looking for gold earrings, an expensive watch or diamond ring you will be spoiled for choice but you may just be offered a tray or two of sterling silver earrings and they are often tucked out of sight at the back of the displays. Obviously there is not so much profit in them!

2. Designer Jewelry Stores

If you are lucky enough to have a store in your area which features the designs from a jewelry designer or two you are likely to find many beautiful silver earring designs there as many designers like to work in silver.

3. Gift Stores and Craft Fairs

These often feature the work of different designers and as silver earrings are a small purchase and a great gift you can often find some beautiful earrings in these kinds of outlets. 4. Online Stores

There are some fantastic opportunities to buy silver earrings online – many stores and designers who you would not be able to otherwise buy from have all their designs on display. And silver is easy to send by mail – just ensure that your parcel will be insured to make sure it arrives safely. Try Amazon for a good selection which includes many wonderful earrings with colored stones as well as plain silver in wonderful shapes.

5. Ebay

You will be amazed at the selection you will find on ebay.com or ebay.co.uk. A search for silver earrings brought up over 10,000 results last I checked on ether site and you will have more difficulty knowing where to start whittling down your choice than you will finding earrings.

Gold or Sterling Silver Earrings?

If you are wondering about whether to buy gold or sterling silver earrings here are the things to think about:-

1. Your Budget

Gold is many times more expensive than sterling silver and as a result you often find much smaller designs in gold earrings (as they take less of the precious metal) than you do in silver. Sterling silver is not actually pure silver as silver in its purest form is too soft for normal wear and tear. This means that you will find almost all silver jewelry being made using sterling silver. Sterling silver is a mix of 92.5 per cent silver and 7.5 per cent copper. Though still a precious metal you will probably find sterling silver well within your budget and plenty of opportunities to expand your silver earring collection.

2. Classic or Up-to-the-Minute Fashion Conscious

You will find that designers are happier to be more experimental with a less expensive material so there are many up to date and avant garde designs in silver and fewer in gold (unless you have an exceedingly high budget). If you are looking for classic designs you will find that you will easily find them in either gold or silver. Gold stud earrings and classic hoops are just as easy to find as silver stud earrings and silver hoop earrings.

3. Your Coloring

Gold tends to go better on those with red and blond hair whereas silver looks stunning on those with dark hair although it very much depends on your skin tone too. When you have a color consultation there are definitely gold people and silver people in any case. If you suit orangey, brown and green colors best then gold is likely to be a better match for you. if you suit clear cool colors then silver is for you. Most people can get away with both however.

If you’re not sure which color tone you suit try looking at yourself in a mirror in natural daylight draped in an orange cloth and then a bight pink cloth in quick succession. You will see that either the warmer shades of the orange or the clearer pink brighten your whole face. If the orange works best gold earrings are for you but if it’s pink then go for silver earrings instead.

If you prefer silver but you suit fall type colors best try combining your silver with colored stones such as amber to get the best of both worlds.

The Best Silver Dangle Earrings

Silver dangle earrings look beautiful as they hang so gracefully and emphasize the length of your neck. I always link them with growing up as we were not allowed to wear dangle earrings to school as kids and of course I could not wait to leave and wear them (among other things that weren’t allowed!) When you choose a pair of dangle earrings, it’s hard to go wrong but these are the kinds of things to think about when choosing between different pairs of silver earrings:-

1. Proportion

If you are quite short (or have a shortish neck) then overly long dangling earrings will not do you an favors as they will be out of proportion to your size. Go for a shortish length of no more than 3 or 4 cm or one to one and a half inches if that is the case or choose shorter drop earrings. If you are tall and have a long neck you can emphasize you height and neck length as much as you like with longer length elegant earrings.

2. Style

Sterling silver dangle earrings are generally less formal than stud earrings and can look a little flirty. The more dangle and the more “bits” (added strands or stones etc) the more flirty they are! If you want to be slightly more formal choose a simple shape with not so much going on, but if you want to reveal your gypsy boho streak then add as many stones and strands as you like. With some asymmetric hairstyles you may want to wear one silver dangle earring in one ear and a matching stud in the other ear but I have yet to see unmatched pairs of earrings – you will probably have to buy two pairs to do this.

3. Color

You can buy plain silver dangling earrings and also earrings which are a beautiful color due to enamel work o the dditon of colored semi-precious stones. It is good to have both types in your earring “wardrobe” – those with go with all your clothes and earrings which enhance particular outfits. There s something very finished about a look which is tied together by the color of your earrings and other jewelry.

4. Fastening

You can buy silver dangle earrings for pierced and non-pierced ears. You will find a lot more choice if your ears are pierced but look out for clip-ons if they are not. You will find that you won’t get such a dangle effect with a clip-on earring so it is well worth thinking about having your ears pierced if you love these. There are earrings for pierced ears which fasten with a post through the ear and then a butterfly clip at he back and also those which are on wires which thread through your ear. Both work equally well but you might find that you prefer one over the other when you have tried them.
